These guys are champs. Very skillful guides with loads of experience and a pleasant laidback style. Good sense of humor as well ;-). Strongly recommend them for off the beaten track trips in Finnish Lapland!

Just had a great 5 day trip with Pihka! Great experience...very well prepared and organised, all equipment provided excellent, and great guides who also provide plenty of tips and tricks during the trip. Atmosphere with them wonderful, lots of fun and they know what to do and not to do. Leave your worries home and enjoy maximum!

A winter wonderland, for an Irish lad. Hetta- Pallas, 4 day trek, on skis/ snow shoes. Challenging and rewarding time spent in Lapland. The guides Minttu, Tommi & Joona were just like friends of old, in a short time, with there laid back comfortable manner, clearly very competent in the roles as outdoor specialists. Also did a very nice ice fishing trip at the end. "The big one got away"

Joona and Tommi from Pihka Outdoors were incredible guides. Safely navigating us on snowshoes through the incredible scenery along the border or Norway, Sweden and across into Finland. They were incredibly knowledgeable and welcoming to the whole group. From the northern lights to racing us to build a snow cave and so many frozen lakes! Although not always accurate when I asked how long there was left to walk! Plus or minus 10 kilometres 🤣🤣🤣. They provided all the support and jokes to get me to the end of the trek! Can't wait to come back in Summer!

Meet Us

Minttu Heimovirta

Co-owner, biologist, mom, certified wilderness guide, journalist

In previous life she worked on TV telling stories about nature. She is still working as journalist and has written a funny non-fiction book about the inhabitants of Nordic nature. Minttu loves all kinds of outdoor activities in the wild – by foot, skis, canoe or bike. Her favourite season is Autumn, when days are still warm, nature is wearing amazing “ruska” colours and the forests are full of clean berries and mushrooms to eat.

Joona Kivinen

Co-owner,  dad, certified wilderness guide, instructor

Joona has years of experience in hiking, wild camping, outdoor gear and survival skills. When combining these skills makes him a seasoned professional in the field. For over 10 years he has trained wilderness guide students in trekking and outdoor techniques. With thousands of kilometers logged on skis and hiking boots, Joona’s expertise and passion for the outdoors make him an exceptional guide. 

The Pihka Concept

We offer high quality, all-inclusive multi-day ski trekking and hiking tours in Finnish Lapland. Our carefully planned Lapland adventure travel packages take you deep into nature. In summer we hike with a backpack through remote Lapland wilderness, wild camping in tents. In winter we do hut-to-hut cross-country ski tours, pulling pulkas across snowy landscapes and watching the Northern Lights. We handle every detail – you just show up.

With us, you will hike through remote Arctic wilderness, ski across untouched snowy fells and sleep under a sky filled with Northern Lights. Our promise: authentic small-group adventures in the very best locations of Finnish Lapland.

We live in Ylläs, just 35 km from Kittilä Airport and 38 km from Kolari train station but still the whole of Lapland is our playground. From here, we take you far away from the crowds and into pure, silent wilderness – for an adventure you will never forget.
